Praising God at All Times

Psalm 148: 13 “Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted; his splendour is above the earth and the heavens.”

This is perhaps the most powerful psalm of praise ever. It is a call to all creation to praise God for it is the very reason for their existence. God created us for his glory. The words of the psalm reflect a sanctified heart longing for the creation and the redemption of God to praise the Lord.

Why should creation (including us) praise the Lord? The answer is given in verse 5, “Let them praise the name of the LORD, for at his command they were created.” The Lord spoke all into creation, and he holds it all together minute by minute. We owe our very existence and the purpose of our existence to the Creator God Himself, for without Him we are absolutely nothing!

If inanimate objects or non-personal entities like the sun, moon, and stars praise the LORD, how much more should we, people with rational souls give God the glory praise, and worship He alone deserves?  “The heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of his mighty hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge” (Psalm 19: 1-2). We are commanded in Psalm 150: 6, “Everything that has breath praise the LORD.”

We have no choice as believers but to praise God in good times and in bad, happy or sad, poor or rich. Praising God has nothing to do with our feelings or our natural senses. It’s all about FAITH, HOPES, AND TRUST IN THE GOODNESS AND FAITHFULNESS OF GOD. When we are absolutely convinced of the truth that without God there is no existence as we know it and our life has no purpose, we cannot help but offer him the praise he deserves.

“Praise the LORD, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name” (Psalm 103: 1).
