Purpose of Existence

Psalm 150: 6 “Let everything that has breathe praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.”

This verse is probably the fitting summation of the Book of Psalms. It encompasses the essence of man’s relationship with his eternal Creator. Our very purpose of existence is to be the recipient of God’s love and he has to be the object of our worship and total allegiance. The verse also acknowledges that without God, we cannot exist. He gave us the very breath of life we have and it is only proper that we glorify him at all times for being alive.

Anything that is alive on earth has breathed. Without it, life seizes. So, life in itself is the greatest gift of God to us, for without it, there is nothing else we can do. And to be alive day by day in a chaotic, confused, and uncertain world is a miracle to behold. We owe God our very existence and to him, we should give back the praise and glory.

What does it mean to praise the LORD? The Hebrew for “Praise ye the Lord” is ‘hallelujah.’ ‘Hallel’ means to ‘praise;’ Jah is the shortened form of the word for the Lord. So you can read it as Hallel-u-Jah. You praise the Lord! Praise often means to extol enthusiastically the greatness of someone or something with words of excellence. So, when we praise God, we are boasting or bragging about Him and what He has done for us.

Praising God is both our delight and our duty. Praise for a believer is not an option! The greatest truth about God is that he is worthy of our praise and the deepest truth about ourselves is that we have been created to praise Him. Praising God is to express joyful delight in His divine presence realizing that when we do this, we are fulfilling the ultimate purpose of our existence.

HAVE A BLESSED DAY!
