The Blessing of Submission
Ecclesiastes 10: 20 “Do not revile the kinq even in your thoughts, or curse the rich in your bedroom, because a bird in the sky may carry your words, and a bird on the wing may report what you say.”
We are being advised and reminded by the Teacher from the verse above of the importance of respecting and submitting to those who have authority over us. First, we must understand that wherever we are, there will always be a leader over us. This is an inevitable fact of life. It begins in the family, where the father is the head of God’s divine design. This cannot be changed and must be respected.
Whether you are at work, in the church, at home, or at business, honor and respect those who are above you. You may not always agree with them but it does not mean you don’t honor them. In Romans 13: 1-5, Paul the apostle admonishes the early Christians to know that “a person who rebels against authority rebels against the order He established, and people like that can expect to face certain judgment.”
Solomon is warning us that it is a bad habit to curse those who rule over us or those that employ us. As Christians, we have to bless, not curse, even if we disagree bitterly on certain things. We should pray for those in authority over us, no matter what we think of the person. However, if we have cursed thoughts about our authorities, cursed thoughts about our neighbors, etc, these thoughts will eventually, unless dealt with, become words. Sometimes even private words will be made public by someone other than we ourselves. Remember the saying, “Walls have ears?” Be careful what you say, even behind doors, because it can come back to bite you.
Remember this: WHEN YOU SOW A SEED OF SUBMISSION UNDER A LEADER, YOU WILL REAP SUBMISSION WHEN YOU BECOME THE LEADER. HOWEVER, IF YOU SOW A SEED OF REBELLION UNDER A LEADER, YOU WILL REAP REBELLION WHEN YOU BECOME THE LEADER.
HAVE A BLESSED DAY!
